Record-Breaking Rocket Launch

Several thousand Texas Scouts gathered this fall to launch more than 3,000 rockets into the sky. They also launched themselves into the Guinness Book of World Records.

When 3,130 rockets took flight at the same time from a launch area near College Station, Texas, the Scouts from the Sam Houston Area Council (SHAC) became certified record holders for most simultaneous model rockets launched.

The event, called SHAC Jam, also offered Scouts shooting sports, outdoors cooking, crafts and other high adventure activities.

The preparation for and execution of the launch was amazing, but the excitement shown on the faces of those thousands of young Scouts was even more awesome than the rockets.

SHAC Jams’s attendance was actually 26,423…, or was it 26,432 Scouts, leaders, and staff? Whatever… Any Scout who had a chance to go and didn’t missed the biggest and best scouting event Texas will have for the next 100 years! It was one big party with rock bands, fireworks, and more Scouting stuff than you can think of all packed into one beautiful Texas weekend!

  5. Imagine 3,130 model rockets being launched at the same time! It was an incredible sight, one these scouts will never forget. Many thanks to Andy “the Rocket Man” for organizing the launch at SHAC JAM. Here in Texas we have a saying “Everything is bigger in Texas” and this certainly was!

I believe there were more than 26,000 people at this event. It was CRAZY AMAZING!!! HUGE KUDOS to the leaders of the Sam Houston Area Council. It was a memory that will last the scouts their entire lives.
