Scouts Chip In After Yosemite Rim Fire Disaster
The recent Yosemite National Park fire, which began in late August and wasn’t fully contained until earlier this month, burned more than 250,000 acres of High Sierra wilderness and caused the evacuation of thousands of nearby residents.
Boy Scout Troop 94 of nearly Mariposa, Calif., responded by manning a collection point in front of a grocery store and collecting food, drinking water, clothing and first aid items. The Scouts handed out shopping lists to citizens entering the store.
The boys then sorted the items and loaded them into a truck. The goods were shipped to a nearby food bank, where the Scouts unloaded them.
