these measure more than 7″ – the max length of the car – wont the axle’s be off if we cut to compensate?

These templates are backwards from most pictures and other templates that show the back axle as being the one closer to the edge.
I agree; I placed an actual uncut Pinewood Derby block on the printed template and the axle holes don’t match up at all.
