A Pinewood Derby in Times Square
Depending on where you are, Scouting takes on a slightly different flavor. Here on the Cub Hub, we like to bring you stories from various areas and councils that showcase that unique side of Cub Scouting wherever it is.
This time, let’s go to New York. On June 27th of this year, the Greater New York Councils of the Boy Scouts of America hosted Cub Scouting’s most iconic event in the heart of the Big Apple. That’s right, a “World Championship” Pinewood Derby.
It was a bonafide New York event, complete with showy performances from the USO (United Service Organization) Show to boot! Check out this video to get a feel for what it was like.
With about 200 Scouts in participation, and a big crowd in the middle of Times Square, BSA got recognized in a big way! And for this first-ever “world championship” derby event, it was a total success!
We want to congratulate all the Scouts and volunteers on this incredible accomplishment! We know this kind of event took countless hours of planning and execution for a truly unique experience for Cub Scouts in the greater New York City area. It looks like it was a lot of fun, which is the ultimate grand prize right there.
