How to Make Walking Tacos
Walking tacos are one of the easiest and tastiest campfire meals you can make. This fun recipe combines crunchy chips, seasoned taco meat and your favorite toppings into a portable meal you can eat right out of the bag.
Whether you’re camping with your Scout troop, cooking at a backyard campfire or looking for a quick outdoor recipe, a walking taco is ready in minutes and is easy to customize with your favorite ingredients.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO MAKE A WALKING TACO
- Ground beef or turkey (you can also use chicken)
- Taco seasoning
- Desired toppings (cheese, sour cream, beans)
- Small bags of chips (nacho-style or similar)
- Spatula
- Spoon
- Dutch oven with lid
- Campfire
WHAT YOU’LL DO TO MAKE WALKING TACOS

STEP 1: Have an adult get a campfire going and let it burn down to hot coals.

STEP 2: With adult supervision, place the Dutch Oven onto the campfire. Use a spatula to brown your meat in the Dutch Oven. Add taco seasoning while it cooks and stir well. Place the lid on top and add a few coals. Remove it from the heat once it’s fully cooked.

STEP 3: Carefully open the top of your chip bag.

STEP 4: Make your walking taco! Add scoops of meat and your favorite toppings into the chip bag.

STEP 5: Fold down the top of the bag and gently shake to mix everything together.

STEP 6: Grab a fork or spoon and dig in to your walking tacos!
