Scouting Open to ATVs, Personal Watercraft

Two activities previously banned from the BSA by the Guide to Safe Scouting are now available to Scouts at events hosted by a BSA council.

Personal watercraft and all-terrain vehicles are now authorized Scouting activities. While your troop still can’t go out on its own and operate ATVs or personal watercraft, you can participate in a council-sponsored event that features these fun machines.

It might take a while before your local council is up to speed on the BSA’s safety rules for these two activities. We’d think next spring would be a good time to contact them about how your troop can participate in an activity with personal watercraft or ATVs.
