Adopting A Wilderness
The Stikine-LeConte Wilderness Area is 448,926 acres in the mainland of Alaska. When it began to become overrun with invasive plants, some nearby Scouts sprung into action.
Earlier this summer, members of Boy Scout Troop 40 from Wrangel, Alaska, helped remove invasive plants from the area. In fact, they liked the area so much that they decided to adopt the Twin Lakes area as their ongoing stewardship project. The Scouts say they plan to return in the coming years to continue the work that they’ve started.
