Search and Rescue
We told you earlier this summer that the Search And Rescue merit badge was coming.
Now, the requirements are here.
Among the highlights:
• Complete the training for ICS-100, Introduction to Incident Command System. Print out the certificate of completion and show it to your counselor. Discuss with your counselor how the ICS compares with Scouting’s patrol method.
• Identify four types of search and rescue teams, then interview a member of one of those teams and learn how it contributes to a search and rescue operation.
• Discuss the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) system, latitude, and longitude.
Please remember that, according to the Guide to Safe Scouting, you still aren’t allowed to fly in aircraft as part of a search and rescue mission.
It isn’t Eagle required, but Emergency Preparedness is and they are usually taught in the same class.
This should be Eagle Scout required.
This should be eagle scout required because you should have to know how to set up a S&R or know what to look for in one
I agree
Cool! Too bad this isn’t eagle required! Ha ha… 🙂
