Crazy About Choppers
The HH-60 Black Hawk medevac helicopter is a really cool machine. It’s fast, it’s dependable and it comes in handy when you need to provide medical care and transport the injured to a distant hospital.
Most people could only hope to see the HH-60 in a magazine, or maybe online or on the news. More than 100 Boy Scouts get to see one up close each fall at Camp Sikorsky, the annual Scout event held at the Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation in Stratford, Conn.
Each year at Camp Sikorsky, Scouts meet with engineers from one of the top helicopter manufacturers in the world. They get to work on merit badges like Energy, Chemistry, Space Exploration, Aviation and Engineering.
And they get to see some of the slickest helicopters around.
“It was just awesome,” says 17-year-old Eagle Scout Nathaniel Gorman from Troop 8 in Sawkill, N.Y. “We were able to actually go into the helicopters. It was an all hands-on experience.”
