How to Make Homemade Bath Bombs
Show Mom she’s the bomb with this fun homemade project that will make her bath time a relaxing escape!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO MAKE BATH BOMBS
- ½ cup citric acid
- ½ cup cornstarch
- ½ cup Epsom salt
- 1 cup baking soda
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (You can also use almond, coconut or jojoba oil.)
- 1 tbsp essential oil (optional)
- Bath bomb molds (You can buy these at a hobby store.)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Gloves
- Large and small bowls
- Small metal spoon
- Water
- Whisk
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Step 1: Combine the baking soda, citric acid, epsom salt and constarch in a large bowl. Whisk together until there are no clumps.
Step 2: Combine and whisk the olive oil, essential oil and 3-4 drops of food coloring into the small bowl. Additional drops of food coloring will make the color darker.
Step 3: Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix constantly with your gloved hands. Pouring the liquid slowly is essential to avoid activating the citric acid. Add 4-6 drops of water as you mix. You can add more if needed for the mixture to have a texture like damp sand.
Step 4: Pack and press the mixture firmly into your molds. Slightly overfill each side and press the halves together until the mold is sealed.
Step 5: Let the bath bombs dry inside the molds for 20 minutes. Once they’re dry, carefully remove them from the molds. If they get stuck, lightly tap the molds with a small metal spoon to help loosen them.
Step 6: Store the bath bombs in an airtight container to keep them from absorbing moisture from the air. When Mom is ready to use her bath bomb, she should drop one into bathwater for a relaxing, fizzy experience.
