Thank you for mentioning Minnesota, and Goldie Gopher! Just to clarify facts, Minnesota residents may have called their home a state in 1857, but the state constitution wasn’t submitted to U.S. Congress until late 1857, and we didn’t achieve statehood until May 11, 1858. Goldie actually made his initial appearance as the University of Minnesota mascot in the 1940s. It would’ve been nice to see a picture of our beloved Goldie.
