Maryland Scouts Participate in Massive STEM Scouting Day
Back in May of 2012, Boys’ Life published a story about the Baltimore Area Council’s STEM Merit Badge Day at the Aberdeen Proving Ground.
After two years, the event has only gotten bigger.
Earlier this fall, the council hosted a STEM Scouting Day, again at the Proving Ground, a U.S. Army facility. This time, the event was open not only to Boy Scouts but also to Cub Scouts and Venturers.
Navy Midshipmen Eagle Scouts, West Point Engineering Program Army Cadets, local STEM experts and civilians and staff from the Proving Ground helped educate Scouts on STEM-related subjects such as robotics, aeronautics and metal working.
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math. It’s a Scouting program that encourages Scouts to better prepare themselves for the adult workplace by learning about these fascinating topics.
Cool.
Great event, over 450 scouts attended, cub scouts, boy scouts and venturers! Twenty one merit badges, cub, boy scout and venturers NOVA awards. All on an active duty Army installation that concentrates on STEM.
