How to Make a String Star
Create a cool string star using just yarn, glue and a few simple supplies! In this easy craft, you’ll wrap colorful yarn into a star-shaped design that’s perfect for decorating your room, hanging in a window or giving as a gift. It’s a fun, inexpensive project that helps build creativity while making something you can proudly display.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO MAKE A STRING STAR
- Bowl
- Glue (white school glue or crafting glue)
- Hair dryer
- Paper plate
- Pen
- Popsicle stick
- Scissors
- Star template
- Toothpicks
- Trash bag
- Water
- Yarn
WHAT YOU’LL DO

STEP 1: Cover your table with newspaper or a trash bag. Cut 5 to 6 pieces of yarn about a foot long. You can cut more later if needed.
Pour some glue into a bowl and add a little water. Stir it gently with a Popsicle stick. Do not make it too runny.

STEP 2: Cut out a star shape and trace it onto a paper plate.
Push toothpicks into the plate along the star points and where each arm meets the center. Space them out and make sure they stand up straight.

STEP 3: Dip one piece of yarn into the glue. Tie one end of the yarn to a toothpick. Wrap the yarn around the toothpicks to make a star. Go around the outside first, then crisscross the middle. Tie the yarn to a toothpick when you need a new piece. Keep going until you like how it looks.

STEP 4: Once you are satisfied with your string art, tie the yarn in a knot and cut off any extra string.
Let your star dry overnight, or ask an adult to help use a hair dryer.

STEP 5: When the star is dry, carefully pull out the toothpicks.
Hang up your star, give it as a gift or decorate your room with it!
