  1. The square knot is a binding knot. Its chief use is to tie down onto an object. Since it will readily collapse when one working end is pulled, it should not be relied upon too join together two lines. Also, it can be very difficult to untie after a heavy strain is applied to the line. The preferred knot for joining to lines together of the same or different diameters in the sheet bend.

    The photo of the sheet bend should show both ends of the ropes on the same side of the knot (a proper sheet bend). Also, the text should be changed to say that it works just as well joining two lines of the same diameter.
